Prison Aftercare Ministry
A Christian outreach to those released from incarceration, and to their families
What is Pac-Min?
Pac-Min is an organization that was formed to provide support and encouragement to ex-offenders, and those on probation and parole, who have been released from any county jail, state prison, or federal prison. Pac-Min is staffed by volunteers from churches throughout Butler County. We believe that it is our calling, as Christians, to minister to the needs of ex-offenders and their families by providing a caring presence. This is done primarily by assigning mentors to provide advice, guidance, and spiritual and emotional support during difficult times. The mentor may also assist in finding and connecting with sources of help within the community. Here is our 2009 Meeting Schedule:
How does Pac-Min work?
Our focus is on ex-offenders and their families living in Butler County. When the name of a person desiring a mentor is received, Pac-Min staff will assign a trained mentor to follow-up with the person or family, also called a “mentee”. The mentor will meet face-to-face with the mentee to get acquainted and find out what kind of help may be needed. While Pac-Min does not directly provide services, the mentor’s function is to help sort out what help is needed, and where it may come from. In addition, the mentor can help with getting those services started, including filling out applications, getting to appointments, and providing advice and guidance on important subjects. PAC-Min’s intent is to help eliminate those problems that typically crop up for a released inmate, such as housing, employment, addiction treatment, and others that tend to cause relapse into a criminal lifestyle.
In addition, the mentor will be able to help the ex-offender or family to deal with moral and spiritual aspects of the situation that lead to imprisonment. It is not PAC-Min’s intent to convert anyone, or to make judgments. Rather it is to open the door to a new understanding of God’s working in individual lives. How can Pac-Min be contacted?
Anyone can call the PAC-Min office directly at (877) 271-9622. Referrals may also be made by caseworkers in social service agencies, or by probation and parole officers. Inside the Butler County Prison, referrals are through the Base Service Unit (BSU) workers who handle the intake screenings inside the prison.
